Hi! đ Iâm really glad youâre here.
Iâm Rachel, owner + co-founder of Five Elements Birth Services and prenatal educator extraordinaire.
Iâm gonna bet youâre someone who wants to feel seen, heard, and unconditionally supported as you give birth and become a parent.
Autonomy and making informed decisions about your care are important to you. It matters that youâre not treated as just another patient in the system. You know that advocating for yourself is an important part of receiving good medical care, but you arenât always sure how to do it.
You HATE small talk and love deep dives instead. You enjoy challenging yourself and have a deep curiosity about this process of becoming a parent. Youâre excited to see how you grow and learn through all of it.
You understand that becoming a parent is a profound Rite of Passage. Youâre looking for someone who can listen deeply to what you want and need throughout.
(Bonus points if they can provide real world practical tips, hands-on support, and an inappropriate joke or two along the way đ)
Thatâs where we come in!
Five Elements Birth Services is a collective of geeky, neuro-spicy birthworkers who care for and support each other so that we can show up wholeheartedly for you.
We do this work because you deserve wise, practical, and FUN support on every level - physical, emotional, and spiritual - as you prepare to bring your baby into the world. â¤ď¸
"I canât begin to express how thankful I am for what you have taught me. Everything from knowing how to work with the resident OB who walked in and said "INDUCE!" all the way to the c-section walk through, which we had to do last minute. I wouldnât have been able to handle it the way I did if it wasnât for the knowledge you gave me. The dancing with Sarah while she was in labour, the breathing + back rub exercises, everything you taught came into play at some point. Truly one of the best choices we made was welcoming you into our home to educate. Thank you so much!"
- Matthew
"Doula support was extremely important for me as a first time mom when I do not have my family here. Everything from the first bath for our son to the most effective technique of diaper change. Soleil also told us about the bouncers, so I bought the ones I found were the best for us. Our son loves it. It is that simple, but I did not know about a lot of things that made our parenting journey a little bit easier. Breastfeeding support, swaddling, playing, baby massage, baby wearing and even help with a passport photo. All those support was helpful and I will remember this experience for the rest of my life."
- Anastasia
"Connecting with a doula made my whole pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience magical. They are like the aunty, sister, or friend who's done the baby thing before and has many tips, tricks, and words of wisdom for you and your partner."
- Erin
"Going with Five Elements was the best route for us. I hate going through hoops to hire people so I liked the package format of purchasing our support and education all in one spot. Five Elements, and specifically Rachel, puts a focus on science based evidence for physiological birth, mental health, relationship support and postpartum care which aligned with our values and helped me to feel confident in advocating for myself, my boundaries, and our family. Our doula, Jesse, was also so complimentary to the entire education process and we loved having her as an integral part of our birth team (I swear all my friends and family know who the famous "Jesse" is, even if they haven't met her). Never once did I feel like I couldn't ask either Rachel or Jesse a question or felt ashamed of a feeling I felt during the process."
- Julia
"When I was two weeks overdue and freaking out Jena was such a help with all her text and phone support. I was a mess and so thankful I had her in my life at that time to help me navigate my feelings and fears about induction."
- Carly
Why do I need a doula?
The difference between having a doula vs not having a doula for your birth is like the difference between hiring a local guide when you travel vs not hiring a local guide.
Sure, youâll be in Paris and itâll be amazing, but wouldnât it be even better to have someone to show you the best pâtisseries, teach you how to âfaire la biseâ, and help you translate what the server is asking you?
One is good, the other is more exhilarating, more enduring, and more fun (only, when it comes to babies, it means ease of birth and deep support through what is often a tough transition).
Itâs a big investment.
Itâs true, preparing for birth and parenting IS an investment. Considering the peace of mind and care youâll get during a time that is basically one giant unknown, itâs well worth it for the unlimited access to knowledgeable and skilled support you get in return.
You're investing in us to hold space for your transformation.
Of course we'll show up and take care of you and feed you ice chips and wipe your brow and help you through contractions. That's actually just a small part of what we do.
Weâre completely and totally committed to your emotional care for the duration of your labor and postpartum. Guaranteed youâll be stressed and struggling at some point, as labor and postpartum always provides unexpected hurdles to overcome.
We've been through this hundreds of times. Rest in that knowledge. We'll be there, with you, prioritizing and advocating for the plans we've made together, long before you have a single contraction.
We'll use every resource at our disposal to take care of you.
If cost is a concern:
check with your third party insurance - many cover doula services.
we also offer our Give A Little Love program where friends and family can donate towards your doula fund
and weâre always happy to discuss extended payment plans.
